How to support
Step Into the Story: How You Can Help
A man in recovery stands at the edge of a new beginning. With trembling hope, he seeks shelter, purpose, and a place to belong. Yet the path is steep—he must find clothing to wear, food to eat, a job to sustain him, and a community to lift him. At The Way Home, we walk beside him. And you can too.
The First 30 Days: A Sacred Threshold
When a man crosses the threshold of The Way Home, he has a newfound life, but carries the weight of his past and the fragile hope of redemption. Here, he begins to lay a spiritual foundation, brick by brick, prayer by prayer. But even as his soul reaches upward, his body still has needs.
In the first month, it can cost over $700 to provide the essentials that help him stand tall:
Clothing – $150 A warm coat, sturdy shoes, a decent pair of pants—these are more than garments; they are dignity stitched into fabric. Though we offer what we can from our closet and local donations, finding the right fit is often a challenge.
Personal Hygiene – $20 Toothpaste, soap, shampoo, laundry detergent—small comforts that restore a sense of self-worth and care.
Transportation – $40 In fair weather, a bicycle or a walk may suffice. But when winter winds howl, a shuttle ride or cab becomes a lifeline.
Housing Fee – $600 This covers food, warmth, and a safe place to rest. Most arrive with empty pockets, unable to pay this fee.
Beyond these basics, many face fines and fees from their past, and while some find work quickly, others wait weeks for a job to open. Your support eases the burden of this fragile beginning, offering peace in place of panic.
Your Presence Matters: Ways to Be Involved
🙏 Prayer: The Breath of Hope
Prayer is the heartbeat of The Way Home. It is the whisper of heaven that meets men in their lowest valleys. We invite you and your congregation to lift up our residents in prayer—for peace in transition, for connection to a church family, for strength to persevere.
✝️ Spiritual Mentoring: Be the Light
Our residents attend local churches, and we hope you’ll welcome them with open arms. We ask them to engage fully—attending services and receiving Christian mentorship. If a resident chooses your church, we’ll gladly connect with you to answer questions and support the journey.
Would you or someone in your church like to visit The Way Home? To share a meal, a story, a prayer? These moments of fellowship are seeds of transformation. Your presence can be the mirror in which a man sees Christ’s love reflected.
🤝 Volunteer: Be the Hands and Feet
Life after incarceration often means starting from scratch. Volunteers are the hands that help rebuild. Whether you lead a Bible study, offer mentorship, or organize a simple gathering, your time is a gift that echoes in eternity.
💌 Financial Support: Fuel the Journey
The Way Home is sustained by two streams: resident housing fees and the generosity of donors like you. While fees cover basic operations—utilities, phone, insurance—many men arrive with nothing but hope.
Your giving can meet them at the door:
